With regards to the response by Singapore’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative, FOO Kok Jwee, to the United Nations on the #ReturnOurCPF court trial:
I, Han Hui Hui, did register at the National Parks Web site as required by the regulations to hold the event on that day.
However, the website registration (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/speakers-corner-registration-form) did not allow one to register to speak and also demonstrate.
Only one option can be selected - and over the years everybody would click "speak" because everyone would surely speak at a demonstration, instead of having a demonstration without speaking.
Therefore, I am charged for an illegal demonstration due to an inherent flaw in the registration process.
During the trial, Nparks director Chia Seng Jiang testified in court that my permit to speak at Hong Lim Park was not revoked.
Nparks manager Sim Bee Lan testified in court that Hong Lim Park is an unrestricted area and under exemption.
The police on duty at Hong Lim Park on 27 Sep 2014, Chionh Chun Meng Eric, testified in court that Hong Lim Park doesn’t require a permit or if there is any requirement to hold a demonstration at all.
Our first lawyer had his licence suspended and our second lawyer discharged himself because we refused to plead guilty.
How can peaceful demonstrators who did not hurt, harm anyone, or damage anything - be charged with being a public nuisance to another event, at the only venue in Singapore whereby one can legally protest or speak?
Since 2007, hundreds of people have registered to speak because one could only select one activity - and did also have a demonstration, but no one has ever been charged with "illegal demonstration" until now.
Please let me know if you know of anyone who could help us with our written submission.
Thank you.
Regards,
Hui Hui
