The 4 Deputy Public Prosecutors involved are:
1. Senior Director/Senior State Counsel/DPP Francis NG Yong Kiat
2. Deputy Senior State Counsel/DPP John LU Zhuoren
3. State Counsel/DPP Amanda CHONG Wei-Zhen
4. State Counsel/DPP Jane LIM Ern Hui

The following was the cross-examination that happened in Singapore’s state court against 56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo who did not have any legal representation or legal aid.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: At these earlier Return Our CPF events, you spoke?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: My first speech was on the 23rd August. That was the first time I speak, and that was the first time I speak as a speaker, the first time in my life.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And that is why you and what you told us is that you did not manage to finish that speech in August so you applied to speak again for the September 27th event?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes, correct.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: For these earlier Return Our CPF events, you did not see any marching that take place?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: No marches.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: There was shouting of slogans but there was no marching?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah, correct.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And in all those events, there were no concurrent events that were going on at the same time?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: It's always one event only.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Low, you were aware that the YMCA event was going to be held at Hong Lim Park on the 27th of September 2014, you knew that?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: When I reach Hong Lim Park then I know that they are supposed to have it 10:00am to 2.00pm on the 27th September.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So what you are telling us is that, even before the day itself, you already knew that the YMCA event was going to be happening at the Hong Lim Park, is that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: That is on the 26th September at night, 8.00-plus.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: 1 day before the actual day?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: That night, the night before.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: How did you come to know on the 26th of September, that there was going to be a YMCA event the next day?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: That night, I tum on my WiFi, then I will tum on my phone because I used to use handphone, so I tum on my WiFi, then it will auto-run, then when I click my Facebook, then the posting came out.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: The post also mentioned the name of the event; YMCA Proms @ the Park? Do you remember this?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: It seems that post have.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: The post mentioned that the guest of honour would be Mr Teo Ser Luck?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I didn't notice it. I didn't really read it. Because it just flip and then I just can't be bothered.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So it could be there but you cannot remember whether it was there and you didn't pay as much attention as well, to that post?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah, I didn't pay much attention. Because I didn't pay much attention because the timing it showed 10.00am to 2.00pm. I said, "Not my problem".

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Right. Okay. So, now, Ms Low, we have heard evidence from the YMCA witnesses, specifically Ms Samantha Seah, and Ms Tia Quah, that the YMCA
applied and obtained approval to use Hong Lim Park from 10.00am to 7.00 or 8.00pm. That is their evidence, right?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: That's what they are saying. I came to know only when during the cross-examination. They managed to get the official approval on the 9th of September during the cross-examination.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: If I can just state for the record what the at the upper right-hand comer there is a slight it states the URL of part of URL, it states there "https://www.facebook.com/fabricationbythepap/photos/A", is Your Honour at that page?
Judge: Yes, I’m at that page, yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: YMCA was already broadcasting information about the event?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Now, in relation to the CPF protest event which you attended. You applied for approval to speak on 22nd of September 2014. That is just 5 days before the actual day?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes, correct.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: YMCA's evidence in Court is that they obtained formal approval from NParks to use Hong Lim Park on the 9th of September 2014?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So even if we compare 9th September to the date of your application on the 22nd of September, that is about 13 to 14 days; 2 weeks.
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: For the CPF protest event, right, the formal approval for it, for yourself, was only 5 days before, 22nd September, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And the CPF protest event on the 27th of September, was only finalised or announced, by your own evidence, at the earliest, a month earlier, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: The CPF event, it was announced on the 23rd of August, that we are going to have the next event on the 27th of September.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: For the CPF protest event on the 27th of September, you were not the organiser, is that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I'm not the organizer.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: You just wanted to give a speech?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And the organiser was actually, to your knowledge, Ms Han?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Actually I don't know whether she's the organiser or not. Anybody can just give a speech at Hong Lim Park.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: No. The person who organised the CPF protest event?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Actually this CPF event, CPF issue, there are many people talking about it at Hong Lim Park, you know?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: No, Ms Low, Ms Low, what you have constantly, what you have been telling the Court is that what you have been telling the Court and what is agreed evidence is that Ms Low was the organizer?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Huh? I'm not the organizer.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: But that evidence has been led from the NParks witnesses?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: So unless NPark can show me?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Correct, Ms Low. So the NParks has presented this evidence, you are in no position to challenge it, it is in evidence, okay?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: This CPF event everybody talked about it.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Mr Thurasingam or Mr Eugene actually advised you guys that it was clearly a set-up and you guys fell for it?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah, yah, correct, correct. That is what during our meeting, he said, "You guys, you know that it's a set-up and then you all fall into". That is what he said.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Now, we also have not know whether Mr Eugene Thuraisingam was personally present at Hong Lim Park on the 27th of September 2014, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don't know whether he's there or not.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Okay, we have established that the event organiser was Ms Han, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Huh?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: The event organiser was Ms Han Hui Hui, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don't know whether she's the one.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Okay?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Because so many people talk about the event.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: But Ms Han was one of the main speakers that day, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: She's a speaker.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: The speeches of the CPF protest could be heard by everyone, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Should be.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: When you were delivering your speech they could all hear you, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So actually there was nothing wrong with the speakers, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: No, I know that there are two speakers spoiled.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So, Ms Low, you must understand that you did not see it?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: But yesterday I present with the invoice, right?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: But you still do not know what happened to the speakers?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I got the invoice that it was being repaired.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So on the 27th of September 2014, your evidence is that you arrived at Hong Lim Park Speakers' Comer at about 3.00pm or thereabouts?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: When I reach there, I was shocked to see the tentage there, the YMCA. I was shocked I thought they finished already. I thought they finished already. Because what my knowing is that they are supposed to be morning 10.00am to 2.00pm. So I reach, "Wah, how come the tent so big?" Then I reach there already, I thought they finish already because it was not ready for any event. So when I was displaying the placard, the uncle and all those say, "What happened? YMCA finish already?" Then somebody mentioned said, "Not yet, they haven't started".

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So but you did not take any steps to check whether the YMCA event had ended or started, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: They told me say, "It seems that not started." Like everybody like blur also, those uncle there.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So but regardless of whether the YMCA event had started or not, you wanted to deliver your speech?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yah.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And there was the rest of the CPF protest event people were also quite intent on starting their event, correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Already all the placard there. You see people are standing around already so it's ready for the CPF event to start already.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: I put it to you that the voice, or the announcement by the MC of the YMCA event, announcing the arrival of the guest of honour, Mr Teo Ser Luck, that would have been audible to everyone at the CPF protest that day?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don't know.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: So what you have told us earlier was also that your intention of going there that day was to speak?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Yes.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: But you also decided to join in or support whatever the CPF protest people wanted to do, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I just be there supporting.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: You are actively participating in the activities?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Anything wrong with marching at Hong Lim Park?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Han is now leading or about the lead the protestors to the front of the stage, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: She's moving but I do not whether you consider as leading or not.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: She’s moving?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Actually, everybody moving on your own, no need to lead.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Han is leading the marches into the sheltered area in front of the Telok Ayer stage, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Everybody is moving on your own. I'm moving on my own, I just move, move, move; that's all. So I don't know whether how you call it as a lead.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Han is leading the march into the sheltered area and you are following, isn't that correct, Ms Low?
I 56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I see people moving.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Han is leading the march, you are following her, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Is she leading?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: It is quite clear from the evidence that the rest of the protesters were trying to send a message to Mr Teo Ser Luck, the guest of honour of the YMCA event, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I just follow.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: But the purpose of the march, the purpose of the was to send a message to Mr Teo Ser Luck, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: They wanted to meet the minster?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: They wanted to send a message to protest directly in front of Mr Teo Ser Luck, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I cannot comment on people behalf. I won't know what, right?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Do you agree or disagree?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: You have to ask those people who protest there. I think the police should investigate everybody, since so many people, why me?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: During the marching, the rest of the marchers would repeat or chant the slogans that were led by Ms Han, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Only they themselves know, I don't know are they the one who lead.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: Ms Han chanted, you echoed during the march, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Many people chanting.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: And I will go one step further and say that the purpose behind the common intention was to bring the protest message to the guest of honour of the YMCA event, Mr Teo Ser Luck, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don't know what the rest of them want to do.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: There is actually no direct evidence of anything that the YMCA event organiser or participants did to disrupt the CPF protest, isn't that correct?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: What I know is that I saw the posting is 10.00 to 2.00pm. So in my mind is that I know that their event supposed to be in morning. CPF event is at 4 o’clock. That is what I know of.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: That the YMCA event did not disrupt the CPF protest, do you agree or disagree?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don’t agree.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: I put it to you that in furtherance of your common intention all of you marched around the general vicinity of the YMCA event, do you agree or disagree?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: Hong Lim Park is a place for anybody to move around freely. We don’t know one another, there is no common intention.

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: I put it to you that all or some of you did chant slogans, do you agree or disagree?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I don't know what the rest are doing, how can I answer on behalf of them?

Deputy Senior State Counsel DPP John LU Zhuoren: I put it to you that in the course of the marches, some of you were beating drums, do you agree or disagree?
56-year-old Singaporean Janet Low Wai Choo: I didn't even know there is a drum.
